Dan Smee

Dan Smee might look like your average guy next door, but upon a closer look, there’s nothing remotely average about him. A combat medic whose resilience and inner strength have helped him overcome major health issues and put a positive spin on his year-long deployment to Iraq, Dan is excited about his first book hitting the stands.

Honoring And EmpoweringWounded Warriors

On May 13, 2010, Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) will host its fifth annual Courage Awards & Benefit Dinner at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

WWP’s Courage Awards & Benefit Dinner brings together many brave wounded warriors and honors their selfless service and sacrifice to our nation. This year we celebrate family caregivers, the individuals who help sustain warriors during their rehabilitation and transition.

To date, over 34,000 members of our nation’s armed forces have been physically wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Studies estimate that more than 300,000 will suffer from the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. These injuries are often devastating, leaving a formerly active young man or woman unable to care for themselves. While their families are grateful for their return, their required care can seem daunting.

The funds raised on May 13 will help support thousands of warriors from the battlefield to bedside, and beyond. Your involvement will help provide much-needed respite retreats for devoted caregivers and will fund WWP combat stress recovery programs, adaptive sports, benefits counseling services, education and employment services, and other programs.

We are planning a very special evening to honor our wounded warriors and to recognize other inspirational individuals, including Bill O’Reilly and Trace Adkins, for their support of our heroes. We are honored that legendary sportscaster Bob Costas will emcee our event for the third year in a row. Several other surprise guests will join us for the event.

With your help, we can make this Courage Awards & Benefit Dinner the most successful yet! Last year’s dinner sold out, so I encourage you to make your reservations early. You can purchase tickets online by clicking ‘Attend’ above. Please contact Brook Guy at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with any questions regarding the event.

Thank you very much for your support. We look forward to seeing you for this special occasion.

Sincerely,
